The Museum of Contemporary Art, founded in 1996, occupies one of the most impressive buildings of Miemeyer, with curved lines that evoke Rio rounded peaks. The museum houses some 1,200 works of Brazilian art of the twentieth century. Its oval frame is suspended on a thin stand above a pond. From the patio looks Río, across the bay, and Niterói coastline to the historic colonial fortress of Santa Cruz.
